![]() ![]() The closest I came to a successful result was to use Macrium Reflect without its ReDeploy feature. Once I had those, I tried again with the three drive image tools, this time using the newly obtained drivers with those tools’ “universal restore” or “dissimilar hardware” options. So then I explored the question of how to obtain the drivers that were apparently needed for a successful restoration. The sections below describe how I first tried to use three drive image tools to restore a backup image of Windows 7 on the source machine (i.e., the ThinkPad) to the target machine (i.e., the Acer), using a desktop computer to create bootable USB drives and perform other related tasks. The reason, I think, is that - especially in the case of Acronis - my searches led to multiple webpages, some of which seemed to conflict with each other and with what I was seeing onscreen, as I ran the relevant tools. In this case, I have essentially documented how I overlooked instructions that would have simplified things. I have found that this sort of account leads me through many of the error messages and other problems that people seem to encounter, when attempting the desired process. That worked, and I was able to clean up a few things that weren’t quite right on that ThinkPad restoration.Īs in many of my posts, this one provides a blow-by-blow account of my struggles to work through the desired process. Fortunately, I still had the ThinkPad, so I took the intermediate step of restoring the image to that. I was basically unsuccessful in trying to restore that image directly to the target machine, an Acer Aspire 5 A515-51-563W laptop. The original drive image was an image of a Win7 installation on an old Lenovo ThinkPad E430 laptop. I would try one way of restoring that would grind away for a half-hour or more while I turned to other things and then eventually I would come back to this and try again. I say these are “some” of the things I learned, because I screwed around with this, on and off, for days. ![]() This post conveys some of the things I learned while trying to do that. I wanted to see if I could restore that image to a different computer. I had an old Windows 7 圆4 drive image, made via Acronis True Image Home 2011.

![]() However, she later said that she did so ‘not as an apology for anything I have written, the reason is much more simple: I do not wish to see Mary Poppins tucked away in a closet’.īut posting online after the publishing of the piece in the Times, Pollack-Pelzner said: “The chief reason I wrote this article was the hope that a Disney exec would read it, take another look at the forthcoming Dumbo remake, and ask if there was anything just a little bit racist they might want to rethink before it hits the big screen. Travers later re-wrote the chapters in a revised edition of the book, in which Poppins and Jane and Michael Banks are transported to a South Sea Island, where the nanny uses the offensive phrase ‘pickaninny’ and speaks in a racially charged southern American dialect. Pollack-Pelzner has also pointed to other instances of archaic, racially-loaded language in Travers’ Poppins books, which in once instance actually saw her books banned from the San Francisco Public Library in the early 80s. ![]() In the 1952 novel Mary Poppins in the Park, the nanny herself tells an upset young Michael, ‘I understand that you’re behaving like a Hottentot.’” And it’s not only fools like the Admiral who invoke this language. It’s a parody of black menace it’s even posted on a white nationalist website as evidence of the film’s racial hierarchy. “We’re in on the joke, such as it is: These aren’t really black Africans they’re grinning white dancers in blackface. When the dark figures of the chimney sweeps step in time on a roof, a naval buffoon, Admiral Boom, shouts, ‘We’re being attacked by Hottentots!’ and orders his cannon to be fired at the ‘cheeky devils.’ “The 1964 film replays this racial panic in a farcical key. When he tries to approach the cook, she threatens to quit: ‘If that Hottentot goes into the chimney, I shall go out the door,’ she says, using an archaic slur for black South Africans that recurs on page and screen. “’Don’t touch me, you black heathen,’ a housemaid screams in Mary Poppins Opens the Door (1943), as a sweep reaches out his darkened hand. “This might seem like an innocuous comic scene if Travers’s novels didn’t associate chimney sweeps’ blackened faces with racial caricature,” he writes. Pollack-Pelzner flatly calls the scene ‘blacking up’, and while it may seem innocuous, it has other more troublesome connotations. Besides his primary occupation of being a chimney sweep, this jack-of-all-trades also moonlights as a pavement chalk artist, a kite seller, and a one-man-band (as shown in title image). ![]() In an article in the New York Times, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, a professor of English and gender studies professor at Oregon’s Linfield College, has said that in the book by PL Travers, the sequence signifies ‘racial panic’. We all know Bert as the lovable chimney sweep who helps Mary Poppins bring a world of wonder and magic to the Banks family. The chimney sweep dance in Mary Poppins, led by Dick van Dyk’s affable jack-of-all-trades Burt, harks back to ‘blackface’ tropes, an academic has claimed. ![]() With its ability to handle a maximum monthly duty cycle of 3,000 pages and the use of 165-page capacity tricolor HP C4700 ink cartridges and 200-page capacity black supplies, this device is best fit to support light-duty use. ![]() What helps make up for its limited multifunction design is a quality performance in output tests, which showed professional-quality graphics and images printing with a sharp resolution of 4800x1200 dpi using color HP C4700 printer ink. The downside of using Run_FDS_Cases.sh is that there are a few things you must do manually, but these are really not too onerous. Last, it may be that you only want to run a subset of the cases, in which case you could comment out other cases in FDS_Case.sh, or modify scripts/Run_FDS_Cases.sh (which we will talk about next) to run your select cases. Next, if your changes would pass a build, FDS run, and Matlab plot, then it should be reasonable to merge and let the full Firebot run overnight. First, (at the time of writing) if you do your development on a machine other than blaze (I use burn or my laptop most of the time), it is a hassle to migrate your branch over to blaze for a full Firebot session. There are a few reasons why you may want to utilize this list for testing your pull request. The list of cases in the FDS verification suite is in Verification/FDS_Cases.sh. ![]() Manually Running FDS_Cases.shĪ light weight alternative to running the complete Firebot process is to manually run the verification cases. However, we note that it is advisable to carry out this process on a clean repository, else you may lose untracked files in your working directories. Going through this procedure will take you through the whole process, including building the manuals. Once you have made the changes in the test branch (add and commit them) you can push this new branch to GitHub viaĪ guide to setting up and running the FDS continuous integration program "Firebot" can be found here. If you are the developer and if you have followed the instructions to this point you will not have a copy of the new test branch in your GitHub repo. In this case, it is usually easier for the developer to make the local changes themselves and then push to their own forked repo. Often it is the case that the pull request is 99 % of the way there, but may need a few minor edits in order meet all the Developer Commit Guidelines. If there is a problem, you can either write the author to make changes and "Close and Comment" the conversation (the author will need to make another pull request) or you can make the changes yourself in your local test repo and push those to YOUR origin and submit a pull request to the central repo from there. If successful, then you can simply accept the pull request on GitHub. make_guide.sh, and we should see FDS User Guide built successfully! in addition to the correct additions having been made to the guide. In this case, we go to Manuals/FDS_User_Guide/ and run $. OK, now run your test to determine if the pull request does what it is supposed to do.
